New Service Allows Businesses to Control Look and Feel of Search Results
PALO ALTO, Calif., October 31, 2001 AltaVista, a leading global search company (www.altavista.com), and a majority owned operating company of CMGI, Inc. (NASDAQ: CMGI), announced today the launch of its new Listing Enhancements program, which allows businesses or individuals to add up to four new features to their listings on AltaVista's results page. Enhancements such as company logos, descriptive icons, customized taglines, and text links can be added to specific URLs.
Available Listing Enhancements include:
Create brand awareness and recognition by including a logo within the search results.
Choose from 29 descriptive icons, including travel, prescriptions, and Internet.
Include a company tagline, promotional offer or other important information that can be updated on a weekly basis.
Drive traffic to the most important pages on your site by using text links.
"Our Listing Enhancements program offers customers a new way to differentiate themselves from competitors, maintain their brand, and provide greater control over how they are represented in our search results," said Chris Kermoian, director of marketing, AltaVista Company. "Not only does this service provide our customers with a means of delivering targeted messages to consumers, but our users will benefit from enhanced usability and the ability to more quickly identify the information they need."
How it Works
Listing Enhancements can be purchased in one of two ways: Customers can work directly with AltaVista sales representatives to add Listing Enhancements to all their pages in AltaVista's index by domain name. Customers also have the option of adding enhancements by URL through the same online interface used for AltaVista's Express Inclusion program. New online interface users must first add URLs through AltaVista's Express Inclusion program, while existing customers can add enhancements to pages previously submitted. All updates and changes will be made within one week, so the most current information is available.
While Listing Enhancements provide Web marketers with additional control over how their site appears on AltaVista's results pages, it does not affect the overall ranking or relevance of individual sites. All Listing Enhancements are subject to editorial review. URLs that feature Listing Enhancements remain subject to AltaVista's objective relevancy algorithms and submission standards.
